Blinds Surrey Information
Blinds Basics
A window or door blind is a only really a cover panel, so you can manage the amount of light coming into a room.
The blind is attached to the inside of the window or door, and a good blind can be raised or lowered as appropriate.
Blinds help the environment as they will help to keep a house warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer by allowing you to vary the amount of light/heat allowed into a room at any one time.
Slat Blinds
Blinds which are made up of a number of individual slats can also be rotated to any position to allow more or less light through. The slats may be made of wood, plastic, vinyl, or aluminium, and will all be connected by a string or cord to hold the blind together. This type of blind is called a "venetian blind."
A "mini blind" is a venetian blind, but with much narrower slats. "Vertical blinds" are also made up of individual slats, but these will hang vertically, and generally be much wider than venetian blind slats. The slats in vertical blinds are usually made of stiffened fabric or vinyl.
Solid Blinds
Solid blinds are blinds which do not have slats. They can be rolled up or raised and lowered, but do not allow any light through the blind itself. These blinds are sometimes called window shades.
Purchasing a Blind
When you are purchasing blinds for your home, you first should decide whether you want the blinds to fit into the recess of your window or door, or outside the recess.
If you have a standard size window or door, you can purchase ready-made blinds. If not, then made-to-measure will be your best option. Most online blind companies offer made-to-measure services, with instructions that are as simple as emailing the measurements to the company, choosing the texture, type, and colour of your blinds, and waiting for them to be delivered.
Cleaning Your Blinds
All blinds, including venetian blinds and mini-blinds can be professionally cleaned but this can be expensive so a little routine blinds maintenance can save you a lot on money in the long run.
AS maintenance you can give your blinds a routine monthly clean. Cleaning your blinds is fairly simple, straightforward, an inexpensive.
To clean the blinds lower the blind fully and close all the blinds slats completely. Wipe the blinds slats with a damp rag. Consider adding a very small drop of washing up liquid to the water. When wiping your blinds down, be very careful not to use too much pressure, especially with aluminium blinds, because aluminium blinds are easily dented. Once they are dented, it is just about impossible to correct the dent. When you are finished wiping one of the blinds sides, open the slats completely and wipe the other side with a clean and damp rag.
